Student Visa (subclass 500)
Allows you to stay in Australia to study full-time in a recognised education institution.
General Requirements
Age
You must be aged 6 or older to apply for this visa.
You must also be:
less than 17 years old when you begin Year 9
less than 18 years old when you begin Year 10
less than 19 years old when you begin Year 11
less than 20 years old when you begin Year 12
Organise welfare arrangements if under 18.
Course requirements
You must be enrolled in a full-time course registered on CRICOS.
a CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment) is required (exceptions may apply).

Genuine Student (GS) requirement
From 23 March 2024, the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement for student visas has been replaced by the Genuine Student (GS) requirement.
The new GS requirement replaces the previous 300-word statement with a list of targeted questions. These questions give the Department of Home Affairs information about you and your reasons for wanting to study in Australia.
These questions include:
Provide details of your current circumstances, which includes ties to family, community, employment and economic circumstances.
Why do you choose to study this particular course? And why do you choose to study at this particular education institute?
How would you benefit from studying your chosen course?
Do you have any study history in Australia?
If you hold another type of Australian visa, you must give reasons for applying for the Student visa.

The name and contact details of someone who can confirm the circumstances of the declared employment
Circumstances in your home country
The nature of your ties, eg. example family, community and employment.
You will need to provide reasons for not studying in your home country if a similar course is available.
Economic circumstances in your home country
Documents showing employment or business activities for 12 months before lodging an application
Potential employment offers including salary and other benefits, after course completion
Income tax returns or bank statements
If there are political and civil unrest and military service commitments in your home country that would present a significant incentive for you to leave your home country, you must provide your reasons and supporting evidence.
Financial capacity requirements
Have enough money available to pay your course fee, travel and living costs and provide evidence.
Health insurance
Have adequate health insurance is required by obtaining OSHC.
Student Guardian Visa (subclass 590)
Allows you to stay in Australia as the guardian of an international student younger than 18 years of age studying in Australia on a Student Visa.
General Requirements
Relationship
Be the parent of the student visa holder, or
A person who has custody of the student, or
A relative of the student, aged 21 years or older, nominated in writing by a parent or person who has custody of the student.
Financial requirements
Have enough money to support yourself and the student during your stay.
Be able to provide accommodation, welfare, and other support to the student.
Bringing children
You cannot bring family members younger than 6 years of age (exemptions apply).
Be a genuine temporary entrant
You must only intend to stay temporarily in Australia and do the things you are allowed to do on this visa.
Evidence that can prove you have genuine intention to return to your country may include:
your personal circumstances in your home country
your potential circumstances in Australia
your immigration history
anything else that relates to your plan to remain in Australia temporarily
Health insurance
You must maintain adequate health cover for the whole of your stay if you are granted this visa.
